The updated Wellness Mama Cookbook, featuring over 100 new recipes, is now available for purchase after a years-long hiatus from its original release.

A self-published success, then a pricing nightmare

The first edition, self-published by blogger Katie Wells, sold out quickly. But when she declined to reprint more copies, used versions of the book began appearing on Amazon for over $200. Those messages, along with repeated requests to bring the cookbook back, convinced her to revisit the project.

This time, she partnered with a publisher to handle distribution, design, and retailer negotiations. The result is a redesigned edition with improved photography, additional recipes, and a lower price point—currently discounted by up to 30%.

200 recipes built for speed and simplicity

The cookbook emphasizes quick, whole-food meals with minimal cleanup. Most recipes take 30 minutes or less and rely on slow cookers, Instant Pots, or one-pan methods. Wells, who has six children and runs a popular wellness blog, wrote the book after struggling to balance family meals with her own health concerns.

“With six kids, a popular blog, and no free time, I know firsthand how difficult it is to cook a healthy, homemade dinner every night,” the official description states. The book aims to eliminate processed ingredients while keeping flavors approachable for picky eaters.

Recipes include Sesame Chicken with Sugar Snap Peas, Sweet Potato Crusted Quiche Lorraine, and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, alongside fermented foods, bone broths, and superfood smoothies. Two weeks of meal plans, shopping lists, and pantry-stocking advice are also included.

The majority of the recipes are family approved.

Cookbooks like this often reflect a broader shift toward convenience-driven health food, though Wells’ approach avoids rigid diet labels. The recipes prioritize accessibility over trendy restrictions—no grains or refined sugars, but no promises of weight loss or detox either.

From DIY to traditional publishing

The original cookbook was funded entirely by Wells, who saved for months to afford a large print run. She described the self-publishing process as overwhelming, particularly when dealing with Amazon’s logistics. The new edition, produced with a professional team, allowed her to focus on content rather than distribution headaches.

She joked about her publishing partners: “I’ll be sending them a gift basket and perhaps a hand-painted mural showing my gratitude!”

The book is available now through major retailers, with the discounted price set to expire soon.
